How much more expensive would it be to go to court?

Finances

If you start court proceedings regarding finances and you want to be represented in court, then your costs are likely to be between £15,000 to £30,000 depending on how many court hearings you need. Just for the first hearing the costs may be in the region of £5,000 – £7,000. This is just an average – the costs could be higher or lower

Children

If you are legally represented throughout proceedings then costs could be in the region of £5,000 – £10,000 but again it depends on how many hearings you would need and how long each hearing takes.

WHAT DOES A SOLICITOR COST PER HOUR VS MEDIATION?

A Family law solicitor in London/ Essex is likely to be in the region of

£180 – £300 + VAT per hour. Once VAT is included the final cost would be

£216 – £360 per hour.

A mediation session is 1.5 hours.

To spend 1.5 hours talking face to face with a solicitor the cost would be between £324 – £540 and there would then be charges for time spent on follow up letters and phone calls.

The cost of a mediation session with one of our highly qualified mediators would be £125 -£210 depending on your annual income. You just pay for the number of sessions that you have. Admin, telephone calls, letters etc are all included in the session rate.
